Grand Junction, CO : Littleton man killed in New Castle I-70 wrec on April, Sunday 2nd 2017
A 65-year-old Littleton man died Sunday afternoon as a result of a single-car accident on Interstate 70 near New Castle.
Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire said in a news release that the victim, Christopher Timmes, was pronounced dead at Grand River Hospital in Rifle.
An autopsy is scheduled for today but the coroner’s office said the cause of death is suspected to be blunt-force injuries.
Colorado State Patrol trooper Nate Reid said Timmes was driving a 1999 Jeep east in the left-hand lane at 1:50 p.m. when he drove off the left side of the road, overcorrected onto the roadway and lost control. The vehicle went into the center median and rolled two and quarter times, Reid said.
Reid said Timmes was wearing a seatbelt and remained in the vehicle.
Reid said use of alcohol or drugs and excessive speed aren’t suspected as factors in the accident, and there’s no indication why Timmes lost control.
The accident closed westbound I-70 between New Castle and Silt.
