A man faces a felony charge after a collision Saturday night injured five people in north Austin, sending them all to the hospital.
Joseph Towery, 66, faces one count of intoxication assault after his car collided with another car on Dessau Road and Childress Drive Saturday around 11:45 p.m.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, all those involved in the crash confirmed for police that a Toyota Camry, driven by Towery, was traveling on Dessau Road and made a left turn onto Childress Drive in front of a GMC Yukon.
“Joseph admitted to driving from a Gala where he had drank (sic) multiple alcoholic beverages” including three or four beers and champagne, the affidavit stated. An officer who interviewed Towery reported that he had a strong odor of alcohol about him and was cooperative with the investigation. The affidavit indicated he had a previous driving while intoxicated conviction
An unopened bottle of wine and unopened 12-pack of Coors beer were found in the Camry at the scene, as well as a broken wine bottle outside it.
