HARLINGEN, TX : Police ID victim of fatal weekend accident as Harlingen man on Sunday, 2nd October 2016

Police have released the name of the man who died Sunday after a mid-afternoon car accident. He was 32-year-old Elisha Elizondo, of Harlingen.
His car was hit broadside by another car in downtown. Police say Elizondo was driving east on Van Buren Avenue in a Ford Taurus when he was struck by a Mazda sedan southbound on 3rd Street, police said.
Investigators say the Mazda was traveling so fast the Taurus was pushed sideways about 50 feet past the intersection down 3rd Street, police said.
“To be pushed that far sideways, that’s a high rate of speed,” Officer Larry Moore said at the scene.
The force of the crash was so strong the driver's side of Elizondo's car was pushed into the middle of the vehicle.
The Mazda driver’s name was not immediately released, but Moore said he is in his early 40s. He was taken to a hospital with non life threatening injuries. Moore said a toxicology report has been ordered.
There were no passengers in the cars.
The accident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. in the middle of the intersection, which does have a traffic light.
