Rockcastle County, KY : A fatal collision on Interstate 75 on Tuesday, 31st December, 2019
The Kentucky State Police is investigating a fatal collision on Interstate 75 that occurred New Year’s Eve in Rockcastle County.
According to a KSP release, the collision occurred Tuesday at 2:36 p.m. approximately five miles south of Berea and closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 75.
Preliminary investigations indicate a 69-year-old Richmond man was operating a 2003 Peterbilt wrecker towing a disabled semi. The man was merging onto Interstate 75, when for an unknown reason, 70 year-old Samuel G. Thomas of Candor, NC operating a 2012 Freightliner semi struck the rear of the disabled semi being towed.
Thomas was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Rockcastle County Coroners Office, the release notes. The man and a passenger in the other vehicle were not injured.
