Copper City, MI : Wisconsin man dies after crashing into tree while snowmobiling in Calumet Township on Tuesday, January 5, 2016
A 21-year-old has died after striking a tree while snowmobiling on Tuesday.
According to the Michigan State Police, troopers from the Calumet Post responded to a report of the crash at approximately 1:30 p.m. Investigation shows that Christopher Scott Houchin of Salem, WI was traveling southbound on Trail #3 near Copper City when his snowmobile left the trail and struck a tree.
Houchin was transported to UP Health System Portage by Mercy Ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
A Michigan State Police accident investigator was called to the scene. The crash is still under investigation, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Assisting on the scene were the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, Calumet Township First Responders, Keweenaw Trail Service and Superior Service.
