Bennington, VT : One-vehicle crash that took the life of a man on Saturday afternoon September 20th 2014
A one-vehicle crash that took the life of a Bennington man on Saturday remains under investigation, according to Bennington Police.
John T. Sigsbury, 53, was the sole occupant of a vehicle that crashed into a tree on Vail Road, between Austin Hill Road and Silk Road, on Saturday at approximately 12:37 p.m., per Bennington Police Sgt. Thomas Dutcher. Sigsbury was deceased when police arrived on the scene.
There were no witnesses to the accident, Dutcher said. Fire police from Bennington Rural Fire Department closed the Vail Road for about three hours following the accident. Traffic was detoured onto Silk Road or Austin Hill Road.
Assisting Bennington Police Department at the scene in addition to Bennington Rural Fire Department were Vermont State Police the Bennington Rescue Squad.
As of Sunday afternoon a small memorial at the crash site on Vail Road had been erected. It included a large dark green cross and several potted mums.
