Cherokee County ,SC : James Donald Blanton killed after fatal Cherokee Co. crash on Monday ,July 20th 2015

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said one person died after a crash in Cherokee County on Monday.

Troopers said the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on Green River Road at Potter Road near Chesnee.

The coroner said the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet SUV, James Donald Blanton, of Green River Road, was traveling south on Green River Road when they went off the right side of the road, over-corrected, overturned and then went off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Blanton was not seatbelted, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Gaffney Medical Center by EMS. The coroner said speed was a factor but the crash remains under investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

No one else was injured or involved in the crash.
