Tampa ,Fl :Car crashed into pole causes power outage on Sunday morning ,August 23rd 2015
"That's all it is I need some gas, but I can't get it," says driver Andrew Rachlin on his way to Tampa.
The car crashed into a pole around 2 a.m. causing downed power lines and leaving Lee County authorities no choice but to shut down Daniels between Treeline Avenue and Chamberlin Parkway for hours.
"It's just inconvenient. That's really about it," explains Rachlin.
In the daylight, tire tracks lead to a mangled guard rail and a damaged power pole that Florida Power and Light workers later towed away.
"I'm leaving town, but it's bad for the people here," says driver Beverly Baker.
FPL confirms nearly 20 homes and businesses lost power until around 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
Employees at a neighboring coffee shop tell us they waited about five hours to open before deciding to leave.
"It still gets pretty busy here on a Sunday with the airport traffic," says driver Tom Cannizzaro. "Who knows how much (business lost), but I'm sure it's taken a toll a little bit."
Details about the driver of the car and the cause of the crash are limited at this time.
Daniels was closed for about eight hours before reopening around 11 a.m.
