Knoxville, TN : Three dead in head-on collision on Interstate 640 West on Monday, January 30th 2017
Three people died on Monday night when a man drove a car the wrong way on Interstate 640 and collided head on with a van, according to a Knoxville Police Department news release.
Around 6:56 p.m., police responded to the crash on I-640 West between Washington Pike and Broadway.
An investigation revealed a Toyota Camry was traveling east on I-640 when the vehicle went into the median and continued into the westbound lanes. The Camry missed several vehicles before striking a Honda Odyssey head on, according to the release.
All involved in the crash – the man driving the Camry, and the man and woman in the Odyssey – were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Authorities have not determined if a medical problem or another issue caused the driver of the Camry to lose control of the car.
All lanes of I-640 West have reopened.
Names are being withheld pending notification of the family.
