Gaston County, NC : Man died when a tractor rolled over on top of him on Bowen Drive near Belmont on Saturday, April 30, 2016

Gaston County Police have identified the Gaston County man killed Saturday in an apparent tractor accident.

Jimmy Caudle, 77, was clearing land on his property south of Belmont when his small farm tractor rolled over on top of him, according to Gaston County Police.

A neighbor told police the man cleared his land on Bowen Drive off South Point Road at least once a year with the small tractor. The neighbor said he saw the man on the tractor Saturday but later noticed the tractor had rolled over, said Capt. Myron Shelor. The neighbor ran over to the man's house and found him.

Police said at the time Caudle was on an embankment, and investigators did not know if he turned incorrectly or if there was some kind of malfunction that caused him to roll the tractor over. The man lived alone. His wife had died several years earlier, police said. Police did not immediately release his name because it took some time to locate his children.

Earlier police reports gave his age as 65.
