Huntsville,TX : Single-vehicle accident leaves one man dead, one in Houston hospital on September, Friday 15th 2017

Two young men, reportedly from Polk County, were traveling on FM 2296 early Friday morning when the driver lost control of his car. The car left the roadway near the intersection with FM 2929 and struck a large tree, instantly killing one of the occupants. The other occupant was severely injured and left trapped in the vehicle.

Firefighters from the New Waverly Fire Department and units from Walker County EMS were dispatched to the scene. A rescue truck from the Huntsville Fire Department was also dispatched to assist.

Two engine companies from New Waverly and the unit from Huntsville worked together to free the trapped occupant, while Walker County EMS began to assess and treat his injuries.

Due to severity of the crash and extent of injuries, EMS requested a Life Flight Helicopter to the scene. The victim was extricated and treated at the scene before being transferred to Lifeflight for the trip to the Houston Medical Center.

Troopers with the Department of Public Safety will be conducting an investigation. Names of the men involved in the accident have not been released at this time.
