A driver involved in a rollover crash in Chelmsford died from injuries sustained in the crash.
State police said five people were hurt in the two-car crash on Route 3. A preliminary investigation indicates a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling northbound when it was struck from behind by a 2008 Jeep Liberty.
The force from the impact caused the Mercury to roll over, ejecting the driver and two passengers.
The driver of the Mercury, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to Lahey Hospital in Burlington where she was pronounced dead.
One passenger, identified as a woman from Westmoreland, New Hampshire, was also taken to Lahey Hospital and is in critical condition. A second passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to Tufts Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
A third passenger, a 31-year-old man, from Keene, New Hampshire, was taken to Lowell General Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Jeep, a 45-year-old man from Nashua, New Hampshire was taken to Tufts Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The northbound side of Route 3 was shut down for nearly 4 1/2 hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
