Amite,LA : Louisiana man dies in head-on crash in southeast Missouri on October, Tuesday 10th 2017
A man from Louisiana was driving the wrong way on Interstate 55 when he struck an oncoming tractor-trailer and was killed Tuesday night in southeast Missouri, police said.
Leonard M. Giardelli Jr., 34, of Walker, La., died at the scene of the wrong-way crash at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in Cape Girardeau County.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said Giardelli was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado south in a northbound lane of I-55. Near the 106 mile marker, Giardelli's pickup struck an oncoming 2017 Volvo Convention tractor-trailer.
The truck, which was going north in the northbound lanes, was driven by Anthony D. Reed, 43, of Charleston, Mo. Reed was uninjured.
Police say Giardelli was wearing a seat belt. He died at the scene. A brief summary of the crash did not say why, or how long, Giardelli's car was going the wrong way on the interstate.
