Midland, MI : A Beaverton woman died after a crash on Wednesday, November, 15th 2017
A Beaverton woman died after a Wednesday morning crash on East Saginaw Road, bringing the number of fatal crashes on county roads so far this year to 10.
The Midland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the latest crash, which occurred about 8:45 a.m. east of North Meridian Road in Lincoln Township.
Rose Marie Esz, 68, was driving a red 2008 Chevrolet HHR west when it crossed the centerline into the path of a gray 2017 Chevy Equinox. The two vehicles collided head-on.
The crash report notes East Saginaw Road is slightly curved for about half a mile, and Esz's vehicle would have crossed the centerline if it continued to travel straight.
Esz was taken to the MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland, where she was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.
The other driver, Courtney Elizabeth Musser, 34, Sanford, and her two children, Emma Kay Briggs and Owen Robert Briggs, both age 7, suffered non-life threatening injuries. They also were taken to MidMichigan for treatment.
Both Esz and Musser appeared to be wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and air bags deployed in both vehicles. Both children were in child restraint systems.
There is no evidence that alcohol or drugs might be involved in the crash, and deputies are waiting for toxicology reports for a final determination. The report will be forwarded to the Midland County Prosecutor's Office for review once it has been completed, which is standard practice in all fatal crashes.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Lincoln Township Fire Rescue, Jerome Township Fire Rescue and MidMichigan Midland Center EMS.
East Saginaw Road was closed between Hope and North Meridian roads from 9:05 to 10:33 a.m.
