Prescott, AZ : One man dead after vehicle crashes into gas pumps on Sunday, April 10, 2016

An SUV driven by a 73-year-old man in Prescott sped through an intersection Sunday and into a Circle K where it struck an unoccupied vehicle and hit the gas pumps and overturned, sending the pumps into another vehicle with seven people inside, authorities said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, though it was not clear, officials said, whether he was killed on impact or if he had a medical emergency that contributed to the cause of the collision or his death. No one else involved required immediate medical attention, authorities said.

The incident occured at about 5:11 p.m. in the area of Gurley and Sheldon streets in Prescott.

The SUV had been on Sheldon Street heading toward State Route 89, when it went through the intersection of Sheldon and Gurley "at a high rate of speed" and "continued off the roadway into the fueling area of the Circle K," Prescott police said.

The Yavapai County Medical Examiners Office will determine the manner and cause of death of the driver of the SUV after a scientific examination, according to a release from the Prescott Police Department.

The name of the driver of the SUV is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

Traffic in the area was restricted for several hours while the accident was under investigation
