Emporia, KS : Injury accident at Sixth and Constitution update on Thursday, January 5th 2017

Emporia Police responded to an accident at 7:40 a.m. this morning at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Constitution Street. An ambulance was called to the scene shortly after law enforcement arrived for a juvenile passenger with a small cut to the head.

The investigating officer reported a Ford Ranger pick-up truck driven by 20-year-old Logan Fuller of Emporia was eastbound on West Sixth Avenue and, due to the road conditions, Fuller continued through the intersection when the light began to turn red at Constitution St.

A Hyundai passenger car was northbound on Constitution St. making a turn onto Sixth Ave. when the pick-up went through the intersection. The two vehicles collided, causing the Hyundai to crash into a pole on the northwest corner of the intersection.

The Hyundai was driven by 52-year-old Maria Hernandez of Emporia; she had four juvenile passengers. Hernandez and two of her passengers were transported to Newman Regional Health by ambulance for what appeared to be minor injuries. The minor injuries included back pain, seat belt burns to legs and a small cut to the head.

The pick-up truck had one other passenger and no one from the truck was injured. The investigating officer reported all parties were wearing seat belts and appropriate child passenger safety devices.

The Hyundai was towed from the scene and the pick-up truck was able to be driven away.

Fuller was cited at the scene for Careless Driving.
