Austin,TX : Fatality rollover in Kyle following hit and run on Wednesday, November 23rd 2016
A 21-year-old male was pronounced deceased late Wednesday night in Kyle after a rollover accident. Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said the crash occurred on Beebee Road near Fountain Grove around 11:50 p.m. The deceased subject was identified as Michael Alan Rentz of Kyle, Texas.
“The accident was originally dispatched as a possible hit and run,” Barnett said.
Kyle police officers responded to the scene and located a red 2004 Pontiac Grand Am with heavy rollover damage. There was a male subject, later identified as the driver of the vehicle, lying on the ground next to the vehicle. Barnett said the male subject was deceased on scene with severe head trauma.
“Officers later learned that witnesses to the crash extricated the male subject before realizing he was deceased,” he said.
“Through our investigation, officers learned that Rentz was involved in a minor accident at Beebee at IH-35 East Frontage and he fled the scene of that crash,” Barnett said.
Rentz hit a 2003 Lincon Aviator SUV. The driver of the SUV then followed Rentz as he was fleeing the scene. Barnett said the SUV driver observed Rentz drive off the roadway, over correct, then slide up on the guardrail and rolling multiple times.
“Multiple witnesses advised Rentz was driving at a very high rate of speed when his car hit the guardrail,” Barnett said.
Hays County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Beth Smith responded to the scene. She pronounced Rentz deceased on scene. Smith also ordered an autopsy on Rentz.
