Billings, MT : Two people injured in two car collision in Yellowstone National Park on Friday, July 8, 2016
A two-vehicle accident in Yellowstone National Park on Friday sent two people to the hospital by helicopter.
The collision occurred north of Old Faithful near Midway Geyser Basin, on the Grand Loop Road, according to a Park Service press release. In addition to the injuries, the wreck resulted in a one-hour road closure between Fountain Freight Road and Midway Geyser Basin.
The route connects Madison Junction to the Old Faithful area.
No more information has been provided, as the investigation is ongoing.
The crash occurred as Yellowstone is experiencing record visitation in its busiest summer ever. With the increase has also come some unusual occurrences and two deaths. One Oregon man died after falling into a hot springs, and a Texas woman was killed after being struck by a car while crossing a park road to photograph an eagle.
More unusual was the woman caught on camera trying to pet a bison, and a Canadian man who picked up a lone bison calf in an attempt to save it. The calf was later euthanized when it was rejected by the bison herd and became a traffic hazard. The man was cited and fined.
