Waco, TX : Former Midway principal Zachry killed in I-35 crash on Monday, November 21st, 2016

Retired longtime Midway ISD principal Sharron Zachry was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 near Ross Monday evening.
Her husband, former Major Leaguer Pat Zachry, was taken by air ambulance to a local hopsital, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. D.L Wilson said.
At about 6 p.m., emergency responders were called to south I-35 at mile marker 354 where a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck ran off the roadway and rolled onto the passenger side of the vehicle, killing Naomi Sharron Zachry, 65.
Sharron Zachry was a longtime educator in the Midway school district. She was both a teacher and a principal at Hewitt Elementary and an assistant principal at the middle school before taking the principal post at the high school. She put off retirement plans at the high school and went to Castleman Creek Elementary, which opened in 2009.Her husband, Pat Zachry, 64, of Waco, was driving and was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital, where he was in stable condition and was expected to be released, Wilson said.
At the time of the accident, Sharron Zachry was not properly wearing her seatbelt, Wilson said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace David Pareya and was taken to Waco Mortuary.
Pat Zachry was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Wilson said.
Pat Zachry, a Richfield High School alumnus, won the National League’s Rookie of the Year award for the Cincinnati Reds in 1974. He pitched in the majors for 10 years and won two postseason games in 1976 when the Reds won the World Series.
Troopers closed a portion of the interstate for more than an hour as crews investigated and cleared the scene. The roadway was reopened at about 7:30 p.m.
Wilson said investigators who not know what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. The crash remains under investigation.
