Winona, MN : A motorcyclist died over the weekend in a crash on Sunday, August 20, 2017
A motorcyclist died over the weekend in a crash being attributed to mechanical issues.
Sheriff’s deputies responded around 3:40 p.m. Sunday to a report of a single-motorcycle crash outside of Altura.
Riders with 62-year-old Jeffrey Robert Girod of Apple Valley, Minn., said he was an experienced rider and they had been on a day trip of the county using roads they hadn’t taken before.
Girod was going downhill west bound on County Road 30 near Altura when his brakes reportedly locked and he skidded into the ditch.
He was wearing a helmet.
Responding along with Winona County sheriff’s deputies was the Altura Ambulance and Rollingstone First Responders.
Girod was helicoptered away from the scene but died as a result of his injuries.
