Muskingum County, OH : Zanesville woman injured in I-70 crash on Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2016
A Zanesville woman suffered broken bones in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 on Wednesday afternoon.
Angelisa Daniel, 50, was taken to Southeastern Med where she was treated for a broken leg, broken ribs and lacerations.
At about 4 p.m., a 1994 Chevrolet Geo hatchback driven by Daniel was westbound on Interstate 70 when it slowed because of mechanical problems, said Tpr. Tim Cunningham of the Cambridge post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A semi-tractor trailer driven by William Morgan, 34, Cooksville, Tenn., was unable to avoid the Geo and struck it in the rear, knocking it off the right side of the roadway.
The vehicle overturned once before coming to a stop, Cunningham said. Damage to the Geo was severe and the vehicle was a total loss.
A small amount of fuel leaked from the Geo into a stream, but the spill was contained and cleaned up by the Cambridge Fire Department, he said.
Morgan, the truck driver, was uninjured in the crash. He was cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead.
The crash occurred at the 177 mile marker (between the exit at Route 209 and the so-called "Champion exit).
