Two Porterville women were injured Sunday in an accident involving a Porterville ambulance on Highway 65 near Olive Avenue in the city, the California Highway Patrol said.
Maria Maldonado, 44, was driving a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder in the far left lane at 8:35 p.m. when an Imperial Ambulance driven by Micaela Johnson, 19, of Porterville, drifted into the left lane, causing the Pathfinder to veer off the road and into the median, a witness told the CHP.
The car then traveled back across the highway into the embankment to the right and collided with a tree and metal fence. Maldonado and a passenger, Elizabeth Cortez, 39, were taken to Sierra View District Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. This accident is under investigation.
