Wesley Chapel, FL : North Lauderdale man dies in Wesley Chapel crash on Thursday morning, March 9, 2017

A 23-year-old man died Thursday morning after his car ran off the road and ended up sinking in a retention pond, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said Vincent Albert Versaci, 23, of North Lauderdale, was driving a 2007 Volkswagen Golf GTI south on Meadow Pointe Boulevard, just south of Sheringham Way, about 6:15 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, he failed to navigate a slight left curve in the road.

The Volkswagon departed the road, hit a tree head-on and then went through a fence before sinking in the retention pond. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, troopers said.
