ROYALTON, VT : Man accused of leaving fatal crash on Monday, August 7, 2017

A Vermont man accused of leaving the scene of a fatal crash has pleaded not guilty to charges.

Thirty-eight-year-old Jeremy Potwin, of Bethel, pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, gross negligent operation resulting in death and driving with a suspended license in court Monday.

Vermont State Police say Potwin was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a guardrail late Friday in Royalton. Police arrived to find 38-year-old James Arbuckle dead and another passenger with minor injuries.

Potwin fled the scene of the crash but was arrested at his home Saturday.

Potwin was supported by both his and Arbuckle’s family in court Monday. Arbuckle’s mother, Roberta Staples, tells WPTZ-TV both families are “united” and won’t be torn apart.
