Lawrenceville, GA : One driver killed, another seriously injured in crash near the Gwinnett-DeKalb county line on Thursday morning, March 16, 2017
A Tucker man was killed Thursday morning after he suddenly veered into oncoming traffic on Lawrenceville Highway, near the Gwinnett-DeKalb county line.
A police report shows Miguel Chavez was heading north on the road when he suddenly swerved to the left and lost control of the 2006 Honda Accord he was driving. Police said he veered across three lanes and into oncoming traffic just before 7 a.m., but they said they do not know why he swerved across the road.
As soon as Chavez swerved into the oncoming southbound traffic, he came into the path of Otilio Acevedo Sanchez, who was driving a 1993 Toyota Camry.
“(Sanchez) swerved to avoid the collision and struck (Chavez’s accord) on the passenger side sending (Chavez) into the far right lane,” Police wrote in their report. “(Sanchez) came to final rest in the center lane.”
The police report shows Chavez died at the scene while Sanchez was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center to be treated for “serious injured.” The Accord and the Camry were severely damaged and both vehicles were taken to the Gwinnett County Police Department headquarters to be inspected, according to the report.
