Santa Clarita, California
A motorist whose pickup truck plunged down a shallow ravine in Agua Dulce on Sunday was later pronounced dead at a hospital after being airlifted from the crash, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The solo vehicle crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday on Sierra Highway at Shady Lane Road, said CHP Officer Alex Rubio.
“We got the call at 4:04 of a vehicle that went over the side,” Rubio said. “He was transported via air but was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:27 p.m.”
The pickup truck went down a 12-foot ravine, CHP Sgt. Perry Haggard of the Newhall Station said.
“It appears he (the motorist) suffered some sort of medical emergency,” Haggard said.
“We took one adult male by helicopter to AV,” Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said, referring to a hospital in the Antelope Valley.
Firefighters “came upon” the crash, Peters said, reporting it as a vehicle over the side of an embankment.
