A man was killed in a collision Friday morning near the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The man was driving westbound on the Great Smoky Mountain Expressway at about 9 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, over-corrected and crossed the concrete center median, troopers said. His vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a car going eastbound
The man died at the scene, troopers said. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital. Troopers said the driver was awake and coherent.
As of 11:10 a.m., the road was closed, but it was expected to open shortly.
The identity of the man who was killed has not been released, pending notification of his family.
