Cambridge, OH : Two injured in Southgate head-on collision on Wednesday, July 12, 2017
A head-on collision on Southgate Parkway late Wednesday afternoon sent two motorists with undisclosed injuries to Southeastern Med via United Ambulance.
Kenneth R. Walter, 47, Byesville, and Katie J. Cutlip, 23, Cambridge, were transported to the Cambridge hospital after the accident at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Additional information regarding the motorists' condition was not available as of press time Thursday.
A 4-month-old passenger in the Cutlip vehicle was not injured. He was reportedly secured in a rear-facing child restraint seat at the time of the crash.
According to Cambridge police reports, a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by Walter was northbound on Southgate Parkway when it crossed through the left-turn lane and struck a southbound 2008 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Cutlip head-on.
Police reported sever front-end damage to both vehicles with a large debris field at the scene.
Police reported Walter was unconscious following the collision. He was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Southeastern Med.
Cutlip, who police reported was suffering from neck and back pain, was transported to the hospital for an evaluation. Her child was evaluated by United Ambulance personnel at the scene, but police reported he showed no signs of injury or distress.
A witness reported Walter was talking on his cell phone at the time of the accident. A second witness reported he did not see a turn signal for a left turn as Walter traveled into and then through the turn lane before striking the Cutlip vehicle.
