GIBBON, NE : Three injured in accident near Gibbon on Sunday, October, 29th 2017
Three people were being treated at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney on Monday following a two-vehicle crash southeast of Gibbon on Sunday night.
At 8:30 p.m., the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department was called to the crash at the uncontrolled intersection of 56th Road and Pawnee Road, two miles southeast of Gibbon. A 2007 GMC pickup being driven east on 56th Road by Levi Warta, 28, of rural Gibbon and a southbound 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Juan Lopez, 19, of Hastings collided at the intersection and damaged a power pole.
Thirty-one customers were without power for about 30 minutes, said Marsha Banzhaf, customer service manager for Dawson Public Power.
Temporary repairs were made to the line Sunday night, and on Monday crews were replacing the pole involved in the crash.
Warta, Lopez and Krystale Kendall, 28, of Hastings, a passenger in Lopez’s vehicle, were all transported to the hospital. On Monday, Warta was listed in serious condition, Lopez was listed in fair condition and Kendall was listed in critical condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
In addition to deputies, emergency personnel who responded to the scene were the Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department, CHI paramedics, the Buffalo County Highway Department and the Kearney/Buffalo County accident investigation team.
