Woolwich Township, NJ : Driver, dog killed in a one-vehicle crash on Route 322 in Gloucester County on Tuesday afternoon, September 20, 2016

A man and his dog were killed in a one-vehicle crash on Route 322 this afternoon, according to township police.

A pickup truck traveling westbound near Locke Avenue crossed into the eastbound lanes before hitting a utility pole and flipping over, Police Chief Richard Jaramillo said.

The driver, identified as an 88-year-old man from Pennsylvania, died in the wreck, along with his dog.

Woolwich Fire and Rescue and Gloucester County EMS "worked diligently to save the driver and the dog," Jaramillo noted.

Logan Police assisted on the scene and directed traffic around the crash. The scene was cleared around 3 p.m.

Patrolman Steve Spithaler and Sgt. Joe Rieger are investigating the cause of the wreck.

The driver's name will be released once family has been notified, Jaramillo said.
