Johnstown, PA : EMS driver injured in Conemaugh Township crash on Wednesday, August 30, 2017
The driver of an EMS unit was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center early Wednesday after crashing in Conemaugh Township, Cambria County.
The Disaster Assistance Response Team vehicle’s driver was traveling on Clapboard Run Road en route to a medical emergency when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, Conemaugh Township police Chief Tammi Collier said.
The vehicle went over an embankment and flipped, trapping the paramedic inside, she said.
“He had to be extricated by responders,” Collier said.
The accident occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m. and no other vehicles were involved, a Cambria County 911 supervisor said.
Conemaugh Valley EMS transported the driver for treatment. Cover Hill and Franklin fire departments also were dispatched to the scene, the 911 supervisor said.
Memorial Medical Center spokeswoman Francine Bodnar said the paramedic, whose name was not given, remained at the hospital as of Wednesday afternoon in stable condition.
Collier said the accident remained under investigation Wednesday.
