COLVILLE, WA : Bus and semi truck on April, Friday 14th 2017

Two students, a school bus driver and a semi-truck driver were taken to the hospital and several others suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a crash Friday morning in eastern Washington state.

There were 25 elementary school students and a driver on the bus when it collided with a semi-truck about 7 a.m., Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Sevigney told The Associated Press.

"Early indications are that the school bus failed to yield and pulled out in front of the semi-truck," Sevigney said. The crash happened about 2 miles (3 kilometers) north of Colville, which is about 70 miles (112 kilometers) north of Spokane, Washington.

The two children and the truck driver taken to the hospital had minor injuries, and the bus driver suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries, Sevigney said.

Some of the other children were treated at the scene, he said.

Colville School District Superintendent Pete Lewis, who went to the crash site to help out, said "there was a lot of emotion at the scene."

The bus driver was on her regular route, Lewis said.

School district staff contacted the students' parents by telephone, while the remaining students were moved to the nearby Hewes Marine Company, where school district staff stayed with the children while waiting to be reunited with their parents, he said.

Some parents brought their children to the hospital to have them checked out as a precaution, Sevigney said.
