Annapolis,IL : South Pekin man, Missouri teen killed in Tazewell wreck on September, Friday 1st 2017

A two-vehicle accident Friday evening in rural Tazewell County killed a South Pekin man and a Missouri teenager.

Jason C. Mead, 31, and Giovanni Hagan, 17, died shortly after 5 p.m. when their vehicles collided on Townline Road, about three-quarters of a mile east of Tazewell Road, said Sgt. Chris McKinney of the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department.

Coroner Jeff Baldi said the two were pronounced dead at the scene. It wasn’t clear if either was wearing seat belts, Baldi said.

McKinney said the vehicle in which Hagan was a passenger was headed east on Townline Road when it apparently drifted to the right. The driver, a 16-year-old boy, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. It entered the westbound lanes of Townline, where it was struck by Mead’s car.

The 16-year-old was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he was held overnight for treatment.

McKinney said the accident remains under investigation. The 16-year-old was cited for traffic violations.
