Hamilton College is mourning the death of a music professor who was struck and killed while riding his bicycle in the Oneida County town of Kirkland.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office says 64-year-old Samuel Pellman, of Clinton, was killed just after noon on Thursday when he was struck from behind by a car. The driver was identified as 86-year-old Annabelle Bloomquist, also of Clinton.

Hamilton College issued a statement on its website saying Pellman was a groundbreaking scholar in the area of electroacoustic music. During nearly four decades at the college, he also served as an associate dean and on numerous faculty committees.

The statement says Pellman was a widely admired teacher, an exceptional adviser to students, and “an exemplary representative of the college and its values.”
