10:23 AM UPDATE: The crash of three trucks and three cars on I-69 in Hamilton County on Thursday morning killed a Fishers man.
Indiana state police identified the victim as Jaspreet Darar, 23, who was in one of the cars.
The early morning crash near 96th Street created havoc for the morning rush hour, police said.
Three northbound lanes have been reopened, but the two right lanes are still closed, state police said.
9:07 AM UPDATE: A second northbound lane has opened on I-69 near 96th Street after a fatal wreck.
State police also said an other crash near this collision resulted in the arrest of one driver on a DUI charge.
Construction crews had temporarily closed the northbound lanes of I-69 to set a bridge beam at 106th Street shortly before the fatal crash. A car driven by a 24-year-old Indianapolis woman ran into a stopped truck and both vehicles caught fire. There were no injuries.
EARLIER: A six-vehicle crash that left one driver dead and another injured will tangle traffic on I-69 for most of the morning, police said.
"We have one lane open at the scene and we expect it to remain open during the investigation," Indiana State Police Sgt. John Perrine said. "That's going to create havoc for us for our rush hour."
The crash involving three semi tractor-trailers and three cars happened at about 4:30 a.m. on northbound I-69 just south of 96th Street between Fishers and Indianapolis.
A driver of one of the cars died and the driver of another car was hospitalized, Perrine said. The investigation and clean up, including spilled fuel, is expected to last until at least 8:30 a.m., Perrine said.
