New York, NY : Driver miraculously survives horrible highway crash on Wednesday, December 28th 2016
The front half of this car was nearly obliterated, but the driver miraculously survived a wrong-way crash on Long Island Wednesday morning.
The man was headed east on Sunrise Highway in Yaphank just before 11 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, which veered across the median and slammed into a sign stanchion on the westbound side, police said.
He was driving so fast that his silver sedan wrapped itself around the pole and tore up a guard rail. Engine parts littered the ground.
The driver (inset), whose name was not released, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.
A witness told Newsday he saw the motorist “driving erratically” moments before the crash, but it’s still unclear exactly what caused the accident.
