Strongsville,OH : Strongsville teen killed in crash on June, Wednesday 7th 2017
A teenager killed in a car crash earlier this week was remembered Friday night during a candlelight vigil, as ribbon-wearing mourners sang song and prayed for her and five other teens involved in the collision.
Under dark and swollen clouds, hundreds gathered in Strongsville at City Commons to reflect on the life of 16-year-old Kailee Mayher, who was killed in the crash that injured three other teenagers.
Kailee's relatives, friends and neighbors ignored the rain and stood in the wet grass and mud to attend the 7:30 p.m. vigil.
Many of them remembered her as a teen with a big smile, who was good-hearted and had a bright personality.
The vigil was led by the family's pastor, the Rev. Joe Mamich of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He, several other religious leaders and Kailee's parents, Rick and Stella, spoke into a microphone under a wooden canopy.
Kailee-- an only child -- had dreams of being a doctor, her mother said.
"Kailee was our everything," she said as she fought back tears and read from a folded sheet of paper. "The light of our life. A bright light that was extinguished way too soon. Our hearts are broken in so many pieces."
Kailee was one of six teen girls who were in the car when it collided with a tree about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on Albion Road just east of North Marks Road. Two of the girls, including the driver, were not hurt. Three others were hospitalized.
