One teenager is dead, another while injured after they involved in a crash in Hickory on Sunday night. Alcohol and speed are believed to be the causes of the crash.
The crash happened along the 1100 block of 6th Street NW around 7 p.m. Sunday evening.
Investigators say a 2006 Subaru Forester was traveling south on 6th Street NW when it struck the curb causing the vehicle to flip several times.
Neither the driver nor passenger was wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Seventeen-year-old Jay Brian Robertson II was a passenger in the vehicle. He was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
The driver, 17-year-old David Arthur Engelmann, was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center.
Engelmann was released and arrested for felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, possession of an open container, driving after consuming by provisional licensee and careless and reckless driving.
He was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Steve Ohnesorge says a cross has been placed as a memorial at the site of the crash.
