A 19-year-old student is dead after he was electrocuted after a van crash over the weekend.

Alex Cullum was driving on Wheeling Pike near CR 1070 North near Muncie around 3:45 a.m. Sunday when he crashed.

"It appears he lost control on a curve, went off the side of the road down an embankment, struck a fence post. His car then rotated, hitting a utility pole, which caused the lines to drop," said Delaware County Sheriff Ray Dudley.

According to a 911 call, Cullum told his parents in a cell phone call after the crash that bright oncoming headlights caused him to overcorrect.

"He got out of his vehicle and, at some point, got in contact with one of the electrical lines," Dudley said.

The 19-year-old graduate of Wes-Del High School was electrocuted.

On the 911 recording, you can hear Cullum's father tell the dispatcher as the family arrived at the crash scene that, "He's out in the field. Looks like there are electrical lines over the top of the van."
