Victorville,CA : Fiery truck wreck on Interstate 10 kills 5 on February, Friday 16th 2018
Authorities say a tractor-trailer plowed through the center divider of a Southern California freeway and rammed head-on into traffic. Five people were killed in the fiery crash.
California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Alvarez says a drilling or cement pumping truck was heading west on Interstate 10 in Rialto when it plowed into oncoming traffic.
A total of 6 vehicles, including two big rigs and a motorcycle, were involved in the resulting crash. Some of the vehicles and the motorcycle caught fire after the impact, Alvarez said.
TV reports showed the big-rig sprawled on its side near a box truck. Two burned, crushed cars were under the smaller truck.
Alvarez said one person was transported to a local hospital with injuries from the crash. Another person was able to walk away uninjured. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The freeway has been closed and traffic was backed up for miles. Alvarez says the route will remain closed until late Friday night.
“We’re estimating 10 to 12 hours, but hopefully sooner,” Alvarez said. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
