A 15-year-old severely hurt in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday has died.
The crash happened at the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and North Maine Avenue in Apopka around 5 p.m.
Silvia Olvera, 23, was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of a crash with bodily injuries and driving while her license was suspended, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the arrest report, Olvera told authorities that she was heading west on Old Dixie Highway, when she hit a puddle. The water splashed onto her windshield, making it difficult for her to see, the report said. When she felt another hit, she swerved to the left, exited the vehicle and found the injured teen, according to the report.
She told another boy who was with the injured teen to call an ambulance before running back to her vehicle and driving off, according to the report.
When asked why she left, the report said, she stated that she panicked because her license is suspended and because she had children in the car with her.
The patrol said upgraded charges are anticipated in the case.
