Two-vehicle crash killed one person in Elreno
One person is dead and three others are critical after a two-vehicle crash on a rural road near the town of El Reno, early Sunday morning.
According to the Canadian County Sheriff's Office, a silver Chevy pickup was heading southbound on Manning Rd. at around 12:15 a.m. with five passengers.
Deputies say the vehicle was traveling too fast for the road conditions and ran through a stop sign. At the same time, a red Chevy pickup was traveling westbound on Britton Rd. when it collided with the silver truck.
An El Reno Church sent out an email to its members Sunday morning asking for prayers for the victims in the crash and their families.
The driver, Jesse Gorbet, along with passengers Karson Baker, Taylor Maine, and Connor Ryan were all in critical condition at the time first responders arrived.
Gorbet was taken to OU Medical Center where he died from his injuries. Baker, Ryan, and Maine were also taken to OU Medical where they are all listed in critical condition.
Josh Castrop and Abby Schwarz were taken to Mercy Hospital in El Reno where they were all treated and released.
The driver of the red pickup, Ty Hood, was also taken to Mercy Hospital where he was treated and released.
The cause of the wreck is still under investigation. Deputies say unsafe speeds for both parties and slick and hazardous road conditions played a factor.
Family members tell News 9 the passengers in Gorbet's truck said Gorbet had not been drinking.
The First Christian Church of El Reno held a prayer service for the families and the community Sunday at 5 p.m. at 400 S. Barker Ave. in El Reno.
