Garrett County, MD : Driver dies in Garrett County crash on Sunday, 17th November, 2019

A driver died late Saturday when a vehicle traveled off U.S. Route 219, struck a tree and burst into flames, Maryland State Police said.

The victim and sole occupant of the 2017 Ford Focus has not been identified because of the severity of the collision, troopers from the McHenry barrack said Sunday.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling north on U.S. 219 near South Street when the driver failed to negotiate a left turn in the roadway. The vehicle struck a tree and caught fire, trapping the driver inside.

The driver was transported to the state medical examiner’s office for identification.

The accident, which happened just after 10:30 p.m., remains under investigation, police said.

First responders from Accident and Deep Creek fire departments, Garrett County EMS, Garrett Rescue and Bittinger EMS also responded.
