Hillsville, VA : One person died in a multiple tractor-trailer accident on Interstate 77 near they Wythe County line on Wednesday, September 14, 2016

A multiple tractor-trailer accident in the northbound lane of Interstate 77 at 3:44 p.m. on Wednesday left one person dead at the scene, according to the Virginia State Police.

An estimated six vehicles were involved in the pileup near milemarker 22.5, near they Wythe County line.

The victim, the driver of one of the tractor-trailers, was reportedly from Florida. None of the other drivers involved were local.

The Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department was also summoned to the scene. One northbound lane of I-77 was closed for almost five hours, until the vehicles and accident debris were cleared.
