Hit-and-run driver kills Candler pedestrian

A father of three died after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking in a roadway, said Sgt. Brian Tucker of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Jonathan Boone Hall, 34, of Candler, was walking eastbound about midnight Monday on U.S. 19/23 when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound, the Highway Patrol said. Pieces of the vehicle were left at the scene, Tucker said.

A reconstruction team returned to the scene Tuesday and investigators were analyzing the vehicle parts to determine the make and model of the vehicle, Tucker said.

The State Bureau of Investigation and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation. There are no sidewalks where the accident happened, in the area of Wiggins Road, Tucker said.

The Highway Patrol is asking anyone with information about the fatal incident to call 298-4256 during normal business hours or call 800-445-1772.
