Aberdeen, WA : Young bicyclist suffers severe leg injury after collision on Monday, 18th June 2018
A 10-year-old boy riding his bicycle at the corner of 3rd and K streets in Hoquiam Monday evening suffered a severe leg injury when he was struck by a car at the intersection, according to Hoquiam Police Sgt. Jeff Salstrom.
Police said the boy was heading east on 3rd Street when he did not stop for the stop signs at the intersection, leading him into the path of a Dodge Durango driven by a 36-year-old Ocean Shores woman about 5:30 p.m.
“The driver braked rapidly to avoid a collision with the boy but was unable to stop in time,” said Salstrom. “The boy was struck and thrown to the ground.”
Hoquiam Fire Department medics treated the boy on the scene before he was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital by ambulance. Salstrom said the boy had two fractures to his lower leg and is in a cast. The boy’s mother told Salstrom she believes her son was to be released from the hospital the following day.
