St. Petersburg, FL : Injury crash involving motorcycle closes northbound lanes on Interstate 275 just south of 54th Ave. S in St. Petersburg on Thursday, 21st November, 2019

All northbound lanes on Interstate 275 just south of 54th Ave. S in St. Petersburg were shut down Thursday as troopers investigated a three-vehicle crash that left a motorcyclist critically injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the Highway Patrol, Diane A. Caraker, 58, of Leverett, Mass., was traveling north in the center lane of I-275 just south of 54th Ave. S around 9:35 a.m.

She failed to slow as traffic ahead of her did, troopers said, and her 2020 Chevrolet Malibu collided with the rear end of a 2002 Honda motorcycle ridden by a 56-year-old man from Gulfport.The impact propelled the motorcycle forward, where it hit the back end of a Nissan Rogue driven by Holly Marie Neuhengen, 35, of Bradenton.

Caraker’s and Neuhengen’s vehicles careened into the outside lane, where the front of Caraker’s car collided with the front of Neuhengen’s vehicle.

All three vehicles came to a stop in the northbound travel lanes.

The motorcyclist sustained critical injuries, according to troopers.
