Fort Wayne,IN : One serious after crash on August, Monday 7th 2017

Fort Wayne Police officers who attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a driver who allegedly was speeding early this morning, resulted in the driver leading police on a pursuit and crashing into a fire hydrant in the 1200 block of Maumee Avenue, according to a police report.
Officers observed the driver allegedly speeding at 12:53 a.m. today in the area of Lafayette and Brackenridge streets and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver allegedly fled from officers, turning east on Jefferson Boulevard, fleeing at a high rate of speed, the report said.
After a short police pursuit, the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the road in the 1200 block of Maumee Avenue, striking a fire hydrant and a large sign for the Indiana Tech campus.
Officers began to administer medical aid to the driver until the paramedics arrived. The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but was later upgraded to serious condition.
Maumee Avenue remained closed while investigators worked the scene. The incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
