Milwaukee, WI : Milwaukee crash kills driver on Saturday in the 2400 block of W. Fairmount Ave., on June 21, 2014

A 19-year-old man was killed when his vehicle was struck broadside by another auto while entering an alley at 1:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of W. Fairmount Ave., and a detective was injured trying to rescue the victim, police said.

The victim was alone in his vehicle, police said, and the driver of the other car remained on the scene. Police said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

A Milwaukee police detective, who ws the first on the scene, suffered minor injuries while attempting unsuccessfully to rescue the victim from his burning vehicle. The detective was treated at the scene.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
