Durango, CO : Motorcyclist dies after accident on Coal Bank Pass on Sunday evening, June 26, 2016

A motorcyclist died after an accident Sunday evening on Coal Bank Pass on U.S. Highway 550.

Colorado State Patrol Cpt. Adrian Driscoll said John Amerest appeared to have lost control of his motorcycle, resulting in a “single-vehicle accident” that occurred at mile marker 59 on the north side of Coal Bank Pass, just before Lime Creek.

Amerest, 60, was a resident of Durango. His next of kin has been notified.

Traffic was limited to alternating on one open lane for about one hour during response to the accident, Driscoll said.
